Washed Out - Within And Without

You know when it's summer.  The ocean breeze.  Seven consecutive days with nights above 70 degrees.  The smell of sun tan lotion in the bathroom.  And the freshest brand marking the charts.  This is Washed Out - Within And Without.

Ernest Greene, the driving force of Washed Out, has been a powerful force in the new music movement of Chillwave.  Defined by summer landscapes and your perfect soundtrack to all things smoothed and relax, Washed Out fit into the one of the more potent music movements in some time.  Eyes Be Closed opens up on Washed Out's debut LP.  Echoes jumps right into the pool on a hot summer night right after the first track.  You think you're in a club, but all you're doing is living the life.

Amor Fati takes you in flight next.  This song reminds you of who you love and who you're thankful in life.  You can groove to this song, but still keep your masculinity.  Tempo bumps and the tempo drops.  This song definitely makes you happy and one of the better on the album.

You're going to get your Animal Collective with this, but you're still going to remain sane in the process.

Have to RSVP...

It's time for Soft.  Just like the title describes, this song is drinking a gin and tonic on a hot summer's day, smooth.  Similar to Amor Fati, but it's about the trip here with Washed Out, not the destination.

I'm shaking now. Far Away draws the buzzy mood.  Everything turns dark.  You're in the woods, the pitch black woods at midnight.  It will be ok.  You're being guided by a wolf.  You'tr going to get out of this mess and back to the summery tunes.

It's not pretentious to like this.  A little different, but not pretentious.

Next up is Before.  In the beginning of this song you feel the cold of winter.  The snow flakes are falling.  But the bass on this song lifts you out of nowhere and you're back to feeling the warmth of summer.

Frankenstands sounds good now.  Haven't had them yet, but they sound so good.

Finally, Within and Without is a modern salute to bands before like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.  You think of the past, and you look ahead to the future.  Who knows what's in-store.
